Life lessons from sharing 40 life lessons in 40 days

Just the other day, I made a public commitment to share 40 life lessons in the 40 days leading up to my fortieth birthday, which is tomorrow. This is life lesson number 39, and I’m looking forward to sharing my concluding piece with you all tomorrow.

Over the last 39 days, I have published something each day. It was a big project that required dedication, and through this process I have learned some lessons. Today I’d like to share with you the lessons I learned from sharing all of these life lessons with you.

Big projects are made up of small pieces

Developing forty individual publications in a short period of time has been no small task. However, it’s a large project that was made up of many tasks, some of them much smaller. After all, putting together forty publications is just a process of publishing one article — and then repeating it! When I first had the idea of developing this project, I sat down and created a plan. I put together a calendar, I brainstormed topics, and I organized writing I had done before that could be used for this project. Then I set aside a little bit of time every day for a few weeks to get ahead of my calendar. Step by step, I got closer and closer to my goal.

Accountability can keep you going

When I committed to this project, I was actually very hesitant. Although I felt excited about the prospect of publishing every day, I also knew that it would be a lot of work. So, I made a public…
