Life lessons from my first car
Just the other day, I saw a picture of a model of old Chevrolet Optra. This was the very first car that I bought with my own money. I had just moved to Abuja and had started my first real job when I bought that car brand-new from the dealership. I drove that car for fifteen years before I was compelled to sow it into someone else life. As I watched my former car drive away from me, I reflected on a few life lessons I learned in and from that car.
Enjoy all the utility from your assets
You see, in the year 2006, I bought my car for about 2 million naira. After using the car for fifteen years, I can comfortably state that I rocked all the value and utility I possibly could get from that purchase. I can confidently conclude by saying this was a car well used.
As I thought carefully about this, I realized that I act the same way with most of my purchases — I hardly let go. I tend to buy something and use it as long as I can, ensuring that I get as much utility out of it as possible. Only a few weeks ago did I upgrade my iPhone 5 and 7, which I purchased new. Even my clothes and shoes, once they enter my wardrobe, will be with me for years until they wear out.
