Life Lessons from Egypt

The other day, as I was planning for all the activities I had to organize, I realised I didn’t have sufficient resources (personnel, time, and budget) to cover all the plans. I became concerned and worried and as I started reflecting I remembered one of my recent trips to Egypt and some life lessons I picked up on that trip. I traveled to Egypt in late 2019, one of my last trips pre-COVID-19.

On this trip, I boarded a flight from Cairo to Sharm El Sheik and had a window seat. As the plane took off, I watched out my window and realised that we traveled over arid land for about an hour. After landing, I remarked on this to some locals I was meeting with. From them, I learned that nearly all of Egypt is desert, with only 5% of its land able to support agriculture. Nevertheless, Egypt is self-sufficient when it comes to food, with its needs met from local agriculture.

Arid Land

As I tried to understand how to make my resources support all of my upcoming activities, I thought about what I learned from Egypt’s resourcefulness, and would like to share some of these life lessons with you.

Project your strength, not your weakness
