Life Lessons from my Ski Trip
Just the other day, I arrived at a ski resort in the company of my classmates. It was my first ski experience so I decided to take a tutorial class for beginners. The tutorial lasted about an hour and I was taught that the most important skill set you need is to is to learn how to control your speed when you are coming down the slopes. Soon after my lessons, I was on the elevator up the mountain and skiing down the slopes. Simply put, I had an awesome experience and I try to visit ski resorts whenever I travel during the winter in the northern hemisphere. I will like to share a few reflections from the tutorial and my subsequent ski trips that I feel are applicable to our everyday lives.
I realized that the most important lessons for skiing are also some of the most important lessons for life, and I would like to share those here.
Learn How to Stop
In life, just like in skiing, things can quickly spiral out of control if you do not know how and when to stop. When I took my first ski lesson, the first skill we learnt was how to stop. Knowing how to stop helps skiers to prevent injury, keeps them from hurting others, and helps them to stay safe on the slopes. In life, knowing how to stop can do the same for us. Stopping a bad habit can keep us from harming ourselves. Stopping an activity, we do not enjoy can help us to focus on what we prefer…
